16 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy The X-Men Franchise
13. Young Beast & Mystique Make-Up Effects Are Horrible (First Class)
Though Matthew Vaughn did a great job with the tricky prequel X-Men: First Class, the same can't exactly be said for the make-up department. The problem lies primarily in the young versions of Mystique and Beast, both of which look inherently silly and ridiculous, like watching a Rugrats-esque prequel cartoon to the X-Men series. The end results were goofy and unintentionally funny, especially in the case of young Beast, who ended up looking more like a fluffy, cuddly toy rather than the future bada** he would eventually become. After seeing them played by fully-grown, confident adults in the previous movies, to go back to quivering youngsters kitted out in unconvincing make-up very nearly derailed their origin stories entirely. Thankfully Beast looked decidedly better in Days of Future Past, so it's an indignity that shan't have to be suffered again (hopefully).
