16 Horror Films Worth Getting Excited About In 2016

9. Leatherface

There really has never been a great Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie outside of the original. The sequels released in the 80s and 90s were bad, the remake in 2003 was worse, and Texas Chainsaw 3D needs to be wiped out of history. Now we're getting yet another installment to the franchise for some reason.

Leatherface will tell the origin story of the villain from Texas Chainsaw, tracing him back to his teenage years and explaining how he came to be. It will apparently open with Leatherface (Sam Strike) escaping from a mental hospital and taking a hostage with him, only to be pursued by a Texas Ranger.

Okay, making a whole movie about a teenaged Leatherface isn't the best idea in the world, and it's pretty rare to see an origin story of a classic horror character that adds anything. However, the movie is being directed by Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury, who made an effective 2007 movie called Inside as well as a solid ABCs of Death 2 segment, and at least the premise is doing something different than all the other sequels, right?

Realistically, Leatherface will almost definitely be another subpar sequel, but look at it this way: it can't possibly be any worse than Texas Chainsaw 3D, and so there is no way it can disappoint.
