16 Intriguing Indie Films To Watch Out For In Spring 2014

10. Cesar Chavez

Plot: Tells the story of civil rights activist Cesar Chavez who co-founded the United Farm Workers labor union in the 1960s. This is the only film on this list that hasn't been seen by anyone just yet, though it should be making its debut in Berlin any day now. In spite of that, you can't deny the pedigree involved in making this biopic. First, you have the cast: Michael Pena, America Ferrera, Rosario Dawson, Wes Bentley, and John Malkovich. And, interestingly enough, acclaimed Mexican actor Diego Luna will be making his directorial debut with the film. Hopefully, the director and his cast can bring forth a great amount of passion for the film considering how relevant the subject matter is in America these days. Meanwhile, how exciting is it to see Michael Pena take on a lead role like this? He has been steadily making a name for himself in the past decade. First in comedies such as Observe and Report and Tower Heist, then he really turned people's heads with his performance in 2012's End of Watch. It was only a matter of time before he was finally given a chance to really show what he can do, and portraying a major historical figure will do just that. US release date: March 28th
