16 Intriguing Indie Films To Watch Out For In Spring 2014

9. The Raid 2: Berandal

Plot: Picking up where the first film ends, Rama goes undercover to infiltrate the ranks of a Jakarta crime syndicate to protect his family and expose corruption within his police force.

I previously mentioned this film in my giant sequels article from a month earlier, noting that this was the one sequel that I was truly excited about. Watching the first Raid movie recently has only made me more pumped for this one. It's not only worth adding because it happens to come out this March, but since my previous article, the movie made its worldwide premiere at this year's Sundance Fest. Now, we can get a much clearer idea of what we'll be in for next month.

Whether or not it's actually better than the first movie seems to be unclear, but as far as action films go, The Raid 2 appears to blow everything else away. James Rocchi of The Playlist says it best: "The Raid 2 makes most American action films look like the over-edited stunt-doubled CGI-laden child's play that they are." And while Rocchi later noted that the film has some script problems, with so many other critics singing its praises, you would be a fool to miss out on this movie when it comes out.

US release date: March 28th
