17 Movies That Critics And Fans Just Didn't Agree On

Aside from the fact that it's no secret audiences are far more forgiving of comedies than critics, there's also the trend of moviegoers going easy on personality-driven comedies featuring popular comedians such as Adam Sandler, Jim Carrey and, yes, Robin Williams.

Williams is an especially interesting case because most of his best-known comedy films have had decades to marinate with audiences and critics alike, and while a lot of fans still rate them highly due to viewing them in their childhood, they really don't play nearly as well without the rose-coloured tint of nostalgia.

Take Hook, which rocks a 6.7 IMDB score, but just 4.5 with critics. Even more egregious, then, is Williams' Patch Adams, which remains much-loved by many of the late actor's now-adult fans, even though it doesn't have much to offer outside of Williams' well-meaning performance.

Add on top of that the fact that Williams is sadly no longer with us, and you have the perfect recipe for an over-inflated audience score. It might hurt to admit it, but it's true.
