17 Movies That Critics And Fans Just Didn't Agree On

6. Equilibrium

Equilibrium Christian Bale
Miramax Films

RottenTomatoes Score: 4.8

IMDB Score: 7.5

Equilibrium is one of those post-Matrix knock-offs that was awesome if you watched it as a teenager, but in the cold light of adulthood, it's really a mixed bag at best.

Christian Bale's talents are thoroughly wasted in this watchable yet hilariously self-serious 1984-inspired action flick, which seemed poised to make "gun kata" the biggest action movie craze since "bullet time", but it ultimately cratered at the box office and now endures as a campy cult classic.

It's easy to see why critics - who have probably seen dozens of similar movies over the years - thought Equilibrium was a jumbled mess imitating countless better sci-fi films, but at the same time, its kitschy B-movie thrills shouldn't be entirely discounted either.
