17 Movies That Critics And Fans Just Didn't Agree On
10. Passengers
RottenTomatoes Score: 5.0
IMDB Score: 7.0
Passengers was one of 2016's most anticipated movies, so what a disappointment it was that critics largely dismissed it as a mediocre - if visually impressive - sci-fi romp.
Audiences, however, were far more amenable to the undeniably alluring pairing of Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence, not to mention the tricksy premise and central romance.
It's easy to see why there's such a gulf of opinion between critics and audiences, though: many pundits piled on the film for its "creepy" relationship dynamic between Pratt and Lawrence's characters, something casual moviegoers probably didn't even pick up on.
This, combined with the star appeal of the two leads, probably explains why only 0.9% of Passengers' votes are 1/10, while a staggering 32.4% gave it a rather generous 7/10.
Again, you can probably split the difference between critics and audiences to find a far more agreeable middle-ground on the movie's quality.
