17 Subtle Star Wars Easter Eggs And References In Other Movies

6. President Skywalker - Independence Day (1996)

Director/co-writer Roland Emerich and his co-writer Dean Devlin have quoted Star Wars as a major influence on Independence Day, and it shows in subtle ways throughout the movie. Upon discovering the shields during their attack against the alien mothership in the first encounter, one of the fighter pilots desperately flies through a swarm of alien fighters, yelling: "There's too many of them!" - a reference to the infamous dogfight over the Death Star. The sequence in which The President watches the UFO take off as he climbs into his jet closely resembles a scene from Empire Strikes Back, the one after the Hoth battle in which Luke watches the Falcon take off from his X-wing. Also, the infamous heavy breathing of Darth Vader as he removes his mask in Return Of The Jedi was one of the sounds used to create the noise of alien interference on electrical items.
