Nominated For: Best Achievement In Cinematography (Wally Pfister)

For years, Warner Bros seemed capable only of churning out a succession of camp oddities that made fans wonder if DC's parent company was playing them for fools. From Batman & Robin to Catwoman, the studio couldn't seem to produce a good movie.

All of that came to an end with Batman Begins, which simply put is the most satisfying origin movie since Bryan Singer's X-Men. Kudos to Christopher Nolan and David S Goyer for topping even Tim Burton's take on the character and bringing Batman firmly into the 21st Century while retaining a sense of fun.

They're helped by terrific, BAFTA-nominated production design and a cast that's almost flawless, with only Katie Holmes looking out of place alongside Oscar winners Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman.
