12. Carryovers From Saturday Night Live
Myers first found fame on the famous American sketch show Saturday Night Live. When he was a teenager he claimed he would one day be in the show and as it turns out he became a regular between 1989 and 1995. Although his stint on Saturday Night Live was not as influential on the Austin Powers series as it was on his previous big success Wayne's World (which was adapted from a SNL sketch) various events from his days on Saturday Night Live then bled in to the Austin Powers series. Firstly and strangely there is a big influence on Dr. Evil from Lorne Michaels, the creator and producer of Saturday Night Live. Many of Michael's mannerism and quirks apparently heavily inspired Mike Myers in his portrayal of Dr. Evil. Many believe that Dr. Evil's Ontario accent is just Myers' accent, who himself hails from Ontario in Canada but it is actually him impersonating Michaels. One of Dr. Evil's most famous lines "throw me a frickin' bone here, people" allegedly came from a script meeting between the writers back on the Saturday Night Live days and stuck with Myers for years later. Some early Austin Powers-esque material can be seen as well in a James Bond parody Mike Myers wrote and preformed during his SNL stint that involved several of the Bond villains complaining about Bond's invulnerability and how much easier it should be to kill him.
