After the success of his breakout debut Clerks, Kevin Smith set about penning a script titled Busing for the now defunct studio Hollywood Pictures. Described by Smith himself as “Clerks in a restaurant”, it didn’t stray too far from the formula behind his indie debut and followed the antics of couple of restaurant busboys.

He never actually got around to making the movie but various elements of the Busing script eventually made it into his Clerks sequel, the not so imaginatively titled Clerks II, and there’s a little nod to the unmade movie that eagle-eyed Smith fans have spotted in 2001 comedy Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

As they’re leaving a movie theatre at the end of the film, there’s an ever so brief glimpse of a movie poster advertising Busing that appears just behind Shannon Elizabeth.
