Director F. Gary Gray managed to squeeze not one, not two but three references to his directorial debut – the 1995 stoner comedy Friday – into his N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton back in 2015.

The first nod comes in a scene in a hotel room party where Ice Cube (played by his real-life son O’Shea Jackson Jr.) sends a groupie packing with one of Friday’s most memorable lines “Bye, Felicia”, now the internet’s go-to dismissal.

Another Friday tribute comes later in Straight Outta Compton when we see Ice Cube – who both co-wrote the script for Friday and acted as executive producer – typing up the movie’s script on a rather clunky early 90s laptop, specifically coming up with the iconic line “You got knocked the f*ck out” uttered by Chris Tucker.

And lastly, a quick clip of Friday can be seen in Straight Outta Compton’s closing credits which details the group’s members’ lives after the events of the film.

Helen Jones hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
