Film: Pocahontas What makes the events that unfold during this song so terrifying is how humans react to the fear of the unknown. Instead of facing their fears or even talking, both sides opt for a violent settlement, as though that was the only option available to both of them. They're all ready to kill, destroy and eradicate the enemy simply because they don't look the same. Pocahontas is deeply underrated for its soundtrack and the message that it gives across in terms of racial stereotyping and segregation. The lyrics are harmful, passionate and full of anger, which is why it works and why it's so scary.
"They're savages! Savages! Barely even human Savages! Savages! Drive them from our shore! They're not like you and me Which means they must be evil We must sound the drums of war! They're savages! Savages! Dirty shrieking devils! Now we sound the drums of war!"
