Genuine backstories are few and far between throughout Reservoir Dogs. Vic Vega has a small scene of character development, as do the other characters previously connected to Joe, but none come even close to the attention given to Tim Roth’s Mr. Orange.

In showing how the cop called Freddy prepared for the biggest, and final role of his life, Tarantino gave a deep exploration into his background. One of the biggest aspects was his love of Marvel Comics, evidence of which can be found if you look for it around his apartment.

Of course, there is the big Silver Surfer poster next to his mirror when he convinces himself the crew doesn’t suspect a thing, but there is yet more. There could be any number of people you could compare Joe Cabot to, but most people wouldn’t choose The Thing from the Fantastic Four. Only a huge Marvel nerd would do this.

Then there are the Iron Man and Thing action figures that can be seen on his coffee table, confirming that it isn’t just Marvel’s First Family that Freddy loves. Apparently, he was just a huge comic book nerd.
