20 Action Movie Sequels Since 2000 That Don't Suck

After a string of box office failures (Event Horizon, Soldier), British director Paul WS Anderson finally hit paydirt with Resident Evil, initiating the longest running videogame franchise to date.

Anderson not only had the good sense to cast Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez as his astonishingly athletic zombie killers, he also threw in references to his inspirations, which included Alien and Dawn Of The Dead. Then he jumped ship to direct Alien Vs Predator and Death Race, leaving the first two sequels to other directors.

When he came back for Afterlife, the results were telling. More interesting visually, and with tauter action scenes, this is the pick of the sequels to date. It’s also the first Resident Evil movie that doesn’t begin or end with Jovovich getting gratuitously naked.
