Orlando Bloom was one of the hottest rising actors of the early 2000s, courtesy of his starring roles in the Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean franchises, though it's also fair to say that major acclaim for his performances was elusive in the years that followed.

And so what a delight it was for Bloom to come totally out of nowhere with a riotously funny turn in the new action-comedy Deep Cover.

Bloom plays Marlon, a struggling actor with a penchant for "going method," who routinely goes way too far while working in a series of police sting operations alongside fellow performers Kat (Bryce Dallas Howard) and Hugh (Nick Mohammed).

It's a deliciously self-deprecating feat of acting from Bloom which gleefully satirises self-involved acting craft and in turn delivers a gut-bustingly funny performance few likely believed he ever had in him.

Bloom steals just about every scene he's in, leaving many hopeful that he'll pursue more pure comedy roles in the future.
