8. Jai Courtney - Dangerous Animals
Who among us expected Jai Courtney to give one of the strongest performances in any horror movie this year?
Courtney, who spent many years being shoved into franchises he was so poorly suited for - namely Die Hard and Terminator - is clearly so much better utilised as a twisted maniac speaking in his native Aussie twang.
Both Suicide Squad movies suggested this, and it was recently confirmed in Sean Byrne's Dangerous Animals, where Courtney portrays Tucker, a serial killer with a knack for feeding tourists to sharks.
Courtney is absolutely terrifying here, his initially easy-going demeanour belying the fact that Tucker is an extremely intimidating, physically imposing man who takes enormous pleasure in murdering his captives.
Courtney's clearly having a blast and significantly elevates the overall experience, making Tucker a tough-to-shake psychopath and by far the strongest character he's portrayed to date.
Honestly, striking out as a Hollywood leading man is probably the best thing that could've happened to his career - the deranged supporting player label just fits him like a glove.
