6. Daisy Ridley - Magpie
Daisy Ridley came to prominence as Rey in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, though she's had precious few opportunities to really dig deep into a character and demonstrate the full extent of her acting chops.
She was great in 2023's Sometimes I Think About Dying and last year's Young Woman and the Sea, but it was the recent neo-noir thriller Magpie which saw Ridley surprise everyone with a truly unexpected barn-burner of a performance.
Though at first it appears that Ridley's Anette is a relatively typical put-upon wife and mother who resents her station in life, the full depths of her character are slowly peeled away over the course of the movie, before the third act confirms her to be a genuine femme fatale.
Working from a script penned by her husband Tom Bateman, Ridley gets to show the full range of her acting powers, as a frustrated woman struggling with a crumbling relationship who ultimately enacts one hell of a revenge plan against her straying husband (Shazad Latif).
