With all the will in the world, Ryan Coogler's masterful horror film Sinners will end up with a shedload of Oscar nominations next year, including a first acting nod for the great Michael B. Jordan.

Jordan has proven himself a singular talent in the likes of Fruitvale Station, the Creed franchise, and Black Panther, but his staggering dual-turn in Coogler's latest is on another level.

Here Jordan has the mighty acting challenge of playing twin brothers, Smoke and Stack, and yet while we're all well aware that Jordan doesn't have a twin in real life, his mesmerising turn in both roles makes it incredibly easy to buy the illusion.

Jordan truly makes these characters feel like two flesh-and-blood individuals, and courtesy of Coogler's perceptive script, is able to dive deep into the differing personalities, fears, anxieties, and temperament of each.

Given that Sinners plays out like a straight period crime drama for a long time before the horror creeps in, it's certainly possible that Jordan defies the odds and nabs himself a well-earned Best Actor nomination next year. Here's hoping.
