20 Actors Who Turned Down Major Movie Roles

15. Al Pacino - Han Solo (Star Wars)

This one was probably for the best. Whilst it's impossible to fully envision how other actors would have fared in a role, Al Pacino wouldn't have brought the same flare to Han Solo as Harrison Ford did. He's an incredibly strong actor, but playing roguish and charming hasn't always been in his ballpark.

Back when George Lucas was putting together A New Hope, however, Pacino was approached to take the role of the super cool smuggler-turned-rebel, but he turned it down (like Connery) because he didn't understand the script.

In an interview, Pacino went as far as saying that the role was his "for the taking", but he couldn't commit to it because he found it too confusing. Looking back, he also says that passing up the role was his "first big mistake", so at least he recognises the error of his ways.

Another actor who turned down the role was Burt Reynolds, who found the role to similar to his other ventures. He too regrets his decision, but on a happier note fans are left with Harrison Ford, who completely nailed it.

Aidan Whatman hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
