20 Amazing Facts About All About Eve
5. Marilyn Monroe (Unintentionally) Caused Trouble On Set
All About Eve is the earliest of Marilyn Monroe’s most recognisable films. She was very inexperienced as an actress and felt out of her depth working with stars like Bette Davis and Thelma Ritter. And according to the autobiography of Gary Merrill, it was quite frustrating working with her.
Monroe often forgot her lines because of nerves and would often require ten takes to get one scene right. Many of her fellow actors would grow impatient of this, despite Monroe putting in her best effort. At one point, Davis snapped at her so she had to exit the set to vomit.
According to George Sanders, Davis once uttered “That little blonde can’t act her way out a paper bag” whilst Monroe was in ear shot. That said, this has been frequently dismissed by other cast members as a false anecdote.
Zsa Zsa Gabor, the newly wife of Mr Sanders, also wasn’t too pleased about the presence of Momroe Monroe. She would constantly arrive on set to keep an eye on her husband because she was so jealous of the blonde bombshell.
