13. All About Eve Has Been Adapted In Various Forms Ever Since Its 1950s Release
Being such an important movie in American pop culture, the story of All About Eve has been frequently retold in many forms of media. “Lux Radio Theatre” broadcast a sixty-minute adaptation of the movie on the 1st of October 1951 with Bette Davis and Gary Merrill reprising their roles.
In 1970, the story was adapted in a Broadway musical called “Applause”. Lauren Bacall won a Tony award for her performance as Margo Channing. And ironically, when she departed from the role, Anne Baxter took over for her character.
In 1982, there was a country and western version of the original movie called “Country Gold”, featuring Linda Hamilton before she was known for the Terminator franchise. This movie is retold with two women in a battle of their country music careers, without any subject of theatre.
The Simpsons also parodied the film in the episode “All About Lisa” (Season 19, Episode 20)
And most recently in 2019, there was a National Theatre production of All About Eve, starring Gillian Anderson as Margo Channing and Lily James as Ever Harrington.
