16. Charlotte Actually Wants To Save Lizzie - The Perfection
The Perfection is one of the most twisted horror films of the past decade, centered around the apparent rivalry between a talented cellist, Charlotte (Allison Williams), and the new star pupil of her former music school, Lizzie (Logan Browning).
Early in the film, the two embark on a trip to rural China together, where Lizzie falls ill and hallucinates bugs bursting out of her skin, at which point Charlotte offers her a meat cleaver to cut off her own hand.
We then learn that Charlotte drugged Lizzie to cause the hallucinations, the initial implication being that she induced Lizzie to cut off her own hand out of jealousy for her success as a cellist. But that's not quite it.
Much later, the truth is revealed: the head of the music academy, Anton (Steven Weber), is a prolific sexual predator, and Charlotte's drastic measure was actually an attempt to save Lizzie from said abuse by making her useless to Anton, sans cello-hand and all.
