20 Anxiety-Inducing Moments That'll Terrify You Senseless

16. The Revenant - Bear Attack

The Revenant, a very good (if overlong) survival thriller, has gone down in history as the movie that finally won Leonardo DiCaprio an Oscar, but the other thing it's most commonly remembered for is this bear attack sequence, which became something of an internet joke around the time of this movie's release. There were many witticisms about the bear trying to force itself on DiCaprio.

Well, regardless of that rather stupid online discourse, as anyone who's actually seen The Revenant will know, there's nothing remotely amusing about the film's bear attack. It is deadly serious, ferociously intense stuff that'll have viewers wincing in discomfort.

A visceral and brutal animal attack from a remarkably convincing CGI bear, this is shot largely in one take, giving viewers no respite from Hugh Glass' (DiCaprio) terror and agony, which is vividly conveyed through DiCaprio's committed performance and the gnarly gore effects.

This is over five straight minutes of pure horror, and quite frankly, you'll never look at a bear the same way again. This scene has done for bears what Jaws did for sharks.
