The much anticipated new film from the legendary Kiyoshi Kurosawa (Cure, Pulse) was well worth the wait, and sees the filmmaker offer yet another tantalising glimpse into the perils of contemporary technology.

Cloud revolves around Yoshii (Masaki Suda), a factory worker who quits his menial job to become an online reseller, and whose increasingly shady business practises cause him to be pursued in real life by those he ripped off online.

While it's hardly cutting-edge social commentary to remark the disparity between online "life" and real life in 2025 - something countless genre films have touched on over the past decade-plus - Kurosawa's mastery of atmosphere and suspense ensure that Cloud is a strange, intoxicating affair in line with his prior tech-centric horror-adjacent thrillers.

Between its sharp performances, striking production design, and Kurosawa's pointed writing, Cloud is a film that'll keep you guessing all the way to its provocative and satisfying conclusion.

Though not quite on par with his consensus masterpiece Cure, it's nevertheless a remarkable addition to Kurosawa's filmography.
