Found Footage: The Making of the Patterson Project is a terrifically charming mockumentary that chronicles a band of filmmakers attempting to make a found footage movie about bigfoot, only to be beset by problems both mundane and very much not.

Perhaps best described as a mash-up of The Blair Witch Project and This Is Spinal Tap, Found Footage pulls off a tricky balance of suspense and comedy, ramping up the tension all while having a ball making light of the travails of low-budget filmmaking.

As polarising as the found footage subgenre can be, there's clearly nothing but full-hearted love for it from the people behind this movie, much of which is a comedy of errors centered around the many, many things that can go wrong on a film production with scant resources.

It won't change anyone's mind about found footage movies, but is executed with diverting panache while suggesting a promising future for director Max Tzannes.
