20 Awesome Horror Movies In 2025 You Definitely Missed

14. The Girl with the Needle

The Girl with the Needle
Nordisk Film

The only film on this list that's been nominated for an Oscar - or is likely to be - The Girl with the Needle is a stunning psychological horror film set in 1919 Copenhagen, as a young woman begins working as a wet nurse at an adoption agency for disadvantaged mothers, unaware of the agency's horrifying true nature.

Exceptionally well directed by Magnus von Horn, The Girl with the Needle is a sumptuous stylistic feast, its evocative monochrome cinematography belying the ugliness of its subject matter.

Vic Carmen Sonne is magnificent as protagonist Karoline, and she's matched at every turn by Trine Dyrholm, who gives a chilling performance as the adoption agency's owner, Dagmar.

This certainly isn't a film for the squeamish considering the gnarly surprises it has in store, but it's brilliantly crafted from top to bottom and provides yet further proof that some of the finest horror content being produced today comes far outside the English language.
