Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon is an absurdly fun and creative horror mockumentary, in which a journalist and her camera crew document a serial killer who has ambitions of joining the ranks of slasher cinema's most celebrated villains.

Though Leslie (Nathan Baesel) is apparently killed at the end, of course a credits scene reveals that he's actually alive, setting up a sequel that so many fans hoped would actually happen.

While director Scott Glosserman and co-writer David J. Stieve were eager to make another movie, it hasn't ever happened, possibly due to the first film's limited commercial success.

In 2017, however, Glosserman revealed that a more recent hurdle was the original script for Behind the Mask 2 feeling outdated, given that it originally parodied found footage and "torture porn" movies, both of which fell out of favour by the 2010s.

In addition to this, Glosserman expressed little desire to try and update the existing script for the audiences of today, and so without going back to the drawing board, there's no prospect of a second film.

Combined with how much time has passed and how little money the original presumably made, it's never happening.
