12. Noroi: The Curse

Plot: A documentary filmmaker investigates a demonic entity.

Noroi: The Curse is pretty much the best found-footage horror film of all time.

Fine, that's a big statement, but the film does justify it and virtually all of the flaws you usually see in this dreadful sub-genre are absent.

Not only does this use the format very effectively, in that it really feels like a fake documentary, but it also has a clever, complex story that'll keep you guessing at each turn as well as a ton of foreboding atmosphere and some seriously effective scares.

It's unusually long and complicated for a found-footage film, but it doesn't waste a moment and by the time it ends it's not only scared the daylights out of you, it's also built a fully developed cinematic world.

It's a slow-burn, but it more than pays off and after it reaches its chilling conclusion you might want to sleep with the light on.
