11. The Midnight Sky

The Midnight Sky George Clooney
Netflix

George Clooney is the latest A-lister to join the Netflix ranks with his new sci-fi film The Midnight Sky. As director-producer-star, Clooney plays Augustine Lofthouse, a lonely scientist living in the Arctic in the wake of an apocalyptic cataclysm.

He finds himself racing to stop a group of astronauts, led by Sully (Felicity Jones), from returning home and having to face the catastrophe.

Adapted from Lily Brooks-Dalton's acclaimed 2016 novel "Good Morning, Midnight," it has all the makings of a glossy, star-studded romp to close the year out, with the mighty supporting cast including the likes of Kyle Chandler, David Oyelowo, and Demián Bichir.

This certainly represents the biggest-scale project Clooney has personally directed, but given his well-established chops, it's easy to see him knocking it out of the park if the material is right. Here's hoping.

The Midnight Sky is scheduled to hit Netflix sometime in December.
