As we all know, Katniss Everdeen is an archer, and a good one at that. The bow and arrow is her signature weapon, but does the same ring true for Jennifer Lawrence?

While the actor had never been a pro archer, luckily she was in the hands of one whilst preparing for the films. In order to be ready for the scenes in which Katniss shoots, Lawrence was trained by Khatuna Lorig — an American archer and Olympic medalist — in how to use a recurve bow.

Due to very understandable safety reasons, actual arrows were almost never used throughout filming, and were instead added as visual effects in post-production. The training was still important, however; it was essential that Lawrence looked like a seasoned archer, effectively simulating the sharp-shooting Katniss who used her skills to survive.
