11. John Wick: Chapter 2

Despite how easy it would have been to mess up what made John Wick so great - simply by trying to inject it with steroids and double down on the concept (in the same way Taken 2 and 3 did) - but the sequel is actually one of those rare breed that outdoes the original.

By going bigger, John Wick 2 actually gives us more reason to love the incredibly cool central character - who is threatening to turn Keanu Reeves into a viable A-lister again - and remarkably, it would actually work just as well if you took out a good deal of the violence. It's not just bullet porn, which it could so easily have been.

The pleasure comes in the super-injection of the set-pieces and the expansion of Wick's wider mythology, and it loses nothing of its crowd-pleasing spirit for aspiring to deliver more.
