20 Best Horror Movies Of 2021
2. Titane
Possibly the only body horror film to both win the Cannes Film Festival's coveted Palme d'Or and be selected as France's Oscar entry for Best International Feature, Titane is a true original in the most ferocious, red-blooded sense of the word.
Julia Ducournau's follow-up to her mighty cannibal horror Raw is an even more transgressive and provocative piece of work, following a young woman named Alexia (Agathe Rousselle) who, following a car accident as a child, has developed an adult sexual attraction to cars. Yup.
But David Cronenberg's Crash this ain't: Ducournau's film is part-serial killer movie, part-missing person's thriller, part weirdly touching family drama, all of which somehow cohere into one of the most disarmingly unforgettable horrors - nay, films period - of the last 12 months.
Brilliantly unpredictable while touting a firmly calibrated emotional core, Titane violently shakes you with both hands from minute one and doesn't let up until the very end.
