20 Best Looking Movies Since 2000
13. Spirited Away
Japanese director - and co-founder of Studio Ghibli - Hayao Miyazaki probably wouldn't know how to make a bad looking animated film if he tried. From Laputa: Castle In The Sky through to The Wind Rises, everything he touches is gorgeous to behold.
Of all the films he's made so far this millenium, Spirited Away is certainly the most lauded and arguably the most visually interesting, taking elements of classic Japanese mythology and wrapping them up in a sweet and engaging tale of a young girl who finds herself transported from contemporary Japan to the spirit world.
Miyazaki's inventiveness is evident throughout Spirited Away, from the steamy bathhouse full of monstrous-looking gods to the surrounding countryside, through which a lonely train winds its way. Indeed, pick any frame from the film and it would find a well-deserved spot in any art gallery.
