20 Best Movies Of 2020

16. The Nest

I'm Thinking of Ending Things
IFC Films

Martha Marcy May Marlene director Sean Durkin's new film The Nest is another quietly sinister thriller from the filmmaker, focused on an Englishman (Jude Law) and his American wife (Carrie Coon) as they relocate with their children to a lush English mansion.

If that logline might suggest supernatural happenings, The Nest is anything but - an emotionally intense relationship drama focused on the psychological violence inflicted between the focal couple.

Jude Law gives a career-best performance as sleazeball hubby Rory O’Hara, channelling his typically suave demeanour into something so much more sinister and unsettling, while Coon matches him every step of the way as his exasperated spouse.

Some may find it too spare or "unsatisfying," but for adventurous audiences prepared to take the plunge, this is one of 2020's finest acting showcases.
