20 Best Movies Of 2022

1. Everything Everywhere All At Once

But the #1 spot goes to a film that few had on their radars when the year started - a deliriously imaginative and shockingly affecting, genre-bending absurdist sci-fi dramedy.

Everything Everywhere All at Once could so easily have been a fun but disposable multiverse movie, but trust the Daniels - the duo behind farting corpse drama Swiss Army Man - to elevate it to a whole other level.

Technically, the pair wring a mind-boggling amount of production value out of their $25 million budget, ensuring the film looks orders of magnitude more expensive.

But at its core the film is powered by its never-better cast - Michelle Yeoh will hopefully win a Best Actress Oscar for her fierce, free-wheeling performance as Evelyn Quan Wang, but Ke Huy Quan and Stephanie Hsu aren't far behind as her screen daughter and husband respectively.

It is an endlessly creative, hilarious, and emotional film that has big ideas despite its inherent silliness. In a cinema landscape becoming increasingly IP-dependent, something this ferociously original feels like a damn miracle.
