Aside from sporting one of the most talked about plot twists in movie history and launching M. Night Shyamalan to superstardom, The Sixth Sense also introduced the world to Haley Joel Osment with a performance that stole the film and secured him an Oscar nod.

The ins-and-outs of The Sixth Sense and its iconic final twist have been analysed and reviewed to death, but one thing that's faded from discussion over the years has been Osment's turn as Cole Sear - a young boy with the ability to talk to the dead.

In the role, Osment is haunting and far beyond his years. From his fondly remembered "I see dead people" line, the building trauma caused by his unfathomable abilities and his remarkable maturity, he turns Cole into a young boy forced to confront a cruel reality and the ghost story forming around him.

It's rare for a young star to burst so confidently into acting, but Osment made it looked easy.
