20 Best Performances In MCU History (So Far)
1. Robert Downey Jr. - Tony Stark/Iron Man
The Marvel Cinematic Universe started its run in 2008 with the very first Iron Man film, a movie which riskily cast Robert Downey Jr in the titular role and ended up soaring on the back of his flawless performance.
More than any other character, Tony Stark was a man of immeasurable growth, a selfish, materialistic playboy billionaire with serious father issues, a genius-level intellect, and too many secrets and tragedies keeping him up at night.
Despite the difficulties involved in the role, Downey Jr never missed an opportunity to take himself to the next level. He could be hilarious and self-deprecating one moment, cynical and bossy the next, and his growth from self-absorbed arms dealer to universal saviour remains perhaps the MCU's finest achievement.
Some people are just born to play certain roles that will forever define them, and watching the Infinity Saga in its entirety, it's clear Robert Downey Jr was the perfect person to lead the MCU and bring Tony Stark's complexities to life. Going forward, he will sorely missed.
