20 Best Performances In The Wizarding World Franchise

4. Michael Gambon - Albus Dumbledore

Harry Potter Voldemort
Warner Bros.

Damn it, this performance is underrated. Michael Gambon is a BRILLIANT Dumbledore.

Look, his over-reacting to Harry apparently putting his name in the Goblet of Fire is just one scene and while his version of Dumbledore strayed a little from the books at times, that doesn't make it a bad performance. Quite the contrary, in fact (and this is coming from someone whose favourite Harry Potter character is Dumbledore).

Not only did Gambon mostly bring out Dumbledore's quiet, wise and eccentric nature, but he brought some other, fantastic dimensions to the performance. He played Dumbledore with a wonderful sense of pathos and world-weary melancholy that made his version a more emotionally-engaging one than either of the other two Dumbledores were.

Sir Michael Gambon delivered a rich, heartfelt and tremendous turn as Dumbledore which remains one of the greatest and most emotionally-affecting performances in Harry Potter. It really is a terrible shame that his work still gets dismissed on the basis of a couple of times when he over-acted a bit.
