20 Best Sci-Fi Horror Movies Of The 21st Century
6. Alien: Covenant
Covenant was never going to have a good time before or even at its release. It hard to carry the burden of being both better than Prometheus and successfully continuing the Alien brand name.
And objectively, it is better than Prometheus, yet failed to carry the torch from those that regard Alien in high esteem. For one, this notion of tying Prometheus to the franchise hasn't really worked, with Covenant still trying to merge this "we created the xenomorphs" spiel into canon.
However, as crazy as this might sound, go back and watch Covenant as a standalone film (or a spin-off, whichever you fancy) and it's actually a good Alien film.
The cynical will just call it a carbon-copy of the first film with some new gimmicks. And for the most part... they're not wrong.
But is that necessarily a bad thing?
Fassbender continuing the trend of "token creepy series android", Danny McBride puts in a more serious turn as the ship's pilot, whilst Katherine Waterston does her best "not Ellen Ripley" impression as Daniels.
Just wish they'd stop with this prequel nonsense though.
