20 Best Sci-Fi Horror Movies Of The 21st Century

12. Pandorum

As mentioned in the High Life entry, space tends to lead itself well to the nature of confined threat and looming fear.

Yet whilst Pandorum does do that, it also lends itself well to a vaster sense of scale too.

Essentially two stories merged together, one half tells of the captain of the Elysium possibly dealing with the titular psychosis. The other part concerns Bowers, another member of the flight crew, trying to reach the ship's core to prevent it exploding.

The catch with that is of the sixty thousand crew initially in hypersleep, many have awoken early and turned into a feral, cannibalistic tribe.

Playing out as half fever dream, half Serenity-Reaper battle, Pandorum does a decent mix of blending the two.

It doesn't fully focus on the psychosis element in depth, nor does it just become a schlocky sci-fi action film. Instead, it keeps us all tensed up with whatever Captain Gallo's got going on, whilst Bowers is a struggling man on a mission to keep the ship adrift.

Ignore the Rotten Tomatoes score, Pandorum is as worthy as any other on this list.
