20 Biggest Movies Of 2016: What Do We Already Know?
7. Assassin's Creed
Release Date: December 21, 2016. Who's Involved: Justin Kurzel (The Snowtown Murders, the upcoming Macbeth) directs, while writing team Bill Collage and Adam Cooper (Tower Heist, Exodus: Gods and Kings) tackle the script with Michael Leslie (Macbeth). Michael Fassbender stars, and Marion Cotillard is reportedly also circling a role. What's The Story?: An adaptation of the ridiculously popular video game franchise, in which prisoner Michael Lynch (Fassbender) has his "genetic memories" accessed in order to observe the life of his Spanish ancestor, Aguilar de Agarorobo, amid a war between the Templars and the Assassins. Will It Be Any Good?: The talent is certainly promising, and for all of the video games that have been adapted into movies, Assassin's Creed has one of the richer, more easily marketable premises. If it can deliver thunderous action while still appreciating the stealthy nature of the games, then it could be the most successful video game movie to date, if not the best.
