20 Comic Book Movies That Are Practically Flawless

6. Superman II (1980)

Captain America Civil War
Warner Bros.

Fraught production aside, Superman II is a wonder of a superhero movie, and one of many great sequels to surpass the excellence of their predecessors.

In perhaps Superman's most personal big screen adventure, Clark Kent (Christopher Reeve) gives up his powers so he can be with Lois Lane (Margot Kidder), only for a new threat to emerge that forces him to re-evaluate his decision.

Featuring commanding performances from Reeve, Gene Hackman, and Terence Stamp and sporting a refreshingly funny tone amongst the drama and heavy action sequences, Superman II has admittedly aged poorly in parts, but its compelling story and well-realised characters make it easy to forgive for its limited shortcomings.

Still the best Superman movie on offer, it's a towering achievement in big budget moviemaking where every character, every twist, and every minute detail comes together perfectly.
