The original The Raid: Redemption was a long overdue reminder of just how good martial arts movies can be when the filmmakers and cast spend the vast majority of the production planning and choreographing the fight sequences. News of the sequel had fans pining for more top notch kick-ass fighting, but none of them expected director Gareth Evans to throw in an insane car chase for good measure. That The Raid 2: Berendal was shot on the measly budget of $4 million certainly doesn't show on screen - it holds its own (and often beats hands down) Hollywood action movies with ten times the budget. The car chase certain matches anything from recent American cinema, and if vehicular action wasn't enough Evans manages to interlink John Woo-style shoot outs and martial arts combat as the cars speed down the busy streets. It's a true highlight of action cinema for 2014. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orNKptscG0A
