20 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy The Transformers Franchise

19. Casual Sexism Everywhere

Sexism and general objectification of women is so prevalent in the Transformers movies that it's practically a trope in and of itself. The first movie of course introduced audiences to the lovely Megan Fox as Sam's eventual girlfriend Mikaela, draped over Sam's car in the most sexually suggestive of means while having little character agency to speak of whatsoever. Bay dialed this up to 11 for the sequel, Revenge of the Fallen, having Fox's a** cheeks hanging out of some hot pants while straddled on a motorcycle, and again, it says a lot that this is her most memorable moment in the entire movie. By Dark of the Moon, Fox has been replaced with Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, whose job it is to a) look pretty and b) be a damsel-in-distress. The same is true of Nicola Peltz's female protagonist in Age of Extinction: though not quite as boneheaded as her predecessor, her character has zero development whatsoever. In fact, the only memorable female character who actually gets to do much of interest at all in the series is Li Bingbing's Su Yueming in Age of Extinction, a smart, assured a**-kicker who actually gets more done than most of the men. She's the only female actually well-represented throughout the whole series.
