16. "Nuclear...Wessels" - Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home

Paramount PicturesOh, god, Star Trek IV...where to begin? Where to end? The problem with a movie played so broadly for comedy as this one is is that while some of the jokes are going to land for some people, not all of them will, and there's a special place in Hell reserved for the writers for some of these writers in the minds of cringing Star Trek fans. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sf8rDpu1vCk One such scene occurs around the 1:20 mark in the video above, in which Chekov's Russian accent is used to (presumably) hilarious effect. He doesn't know how to pronounce "vessels," and he's asking a cop...in the 80s...in a
Russian accent...about where the "nuclear wessels" are! If that's not comedy gold, I don't know what is. And yes, that means I don't know what "comedy gold" is, because this scene is about as fun and enjoyable as getting an exam by a proctologist with poor depth perception.
