It was also he first film he'd made in a long time without his usual cinematographer Wally Pfister, because he was off busy working on his directorial debut! Boy, do audiences wish he hadn't bothered. This half-baked AI thriller with Johnny Depp as a scientist resurrected by his technology was one of the most disappointing releases of 2014. But hey, Morgan Freeman was in it! Choice review quote: €œThough Pfister and cinematographer Jess Hall deliver some effective camerawork, it€™s all slaved to a banal sci-fi slog that aims high but falls far.€ (Empire)
