20 DVD Commentaries You Need To Hear Before You Die

10. Tropic Thunder

Participant(s): Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr. (As Lazarus) In a genius nod to a joke in the film that Lazarus never breaks character €œtil I€™ve done the DVD commentary€, Robert Downey Jr. continues his performance as Sgt. Lincoln Osiris. He comes out with bogus set stories from his character€™s perspective which are bound to have fans who bothered with the commentary track splitting their sides. With so many actors treating audio tracks with indifference, it€™s nice seeing Robert Downey Jr. going the extra mile to make the commentary a worthwhile experience. The other actors involved don€™t disappoint either. Ben Stiller provides a huge amount of fascinating insight into his fifth directorial outing and demonstrates how much he knows about the business. It€™s ridiculously funny hearing Stiller trying to provide more insight only to be cut off by the in-character Robert Downey Jr. Predictably Jack Black is a bundle of energy who flitters between the comedic and the analytical to ensure that the commentary remains both entertaining and informative.
