20 Films That Will Define 2016

4. Suicide Squad

Release Date: 5th August (US / UK) Director: David Ayer Starring: Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Cara Delevingne Across an overcrowded and ever-growing market, DC's anti-hero ensemble has the best chance to truly break out next year. Suicide Squad is somewhat in the same vein of Deadpool in that this is a comic adaptation for adults, but whilst we can hope for gory glee with Reynolds' film, Ayer's muscular and confrontational background seems to suggest that this will be a bleaker ride. After the excellent trailer debuted at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year, the gaggle of no-good-doers really have the chance to be the adaptive cult icons of 2016. Leto's Joker looks deliciously insane, as does Robbie's Harley Quinn - finally a great actress playing this wildly underused character - plus we've got Kinnaman, Delevingne, Will Smith, Scott Eastwood, Jai Courtney, Ben Affleck, Viola Davis and Common to boot. To say DC's primary foray into the supervillain sub-genre (if there is such a thing) is making a statement is doing Suicide Squad a disservice. From the brilliantly macabre humour, to the enthralling action teased in the above video, this is the flight of fancy to beat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WI3hecGO_04
