13. Scooby-Doo (2002)

Scooby Doo
Warner Bros.

The live-action adaptation of the animated television franchise Scooby-Doo may be all things corny, but it’s just so enjoyable, even if it’s for the wrong reasons. The casting of this movie really was a stroke of genius, from Buffy The Vampire Slayer's Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne to Scream veteran Matthew Lillard as Shaggy and Rowan "Mr Bean" Atkinson as the story’s antagonist.

The story begins unpredictably sadly as the Mystery Inc. gang depart ways due to a mission that causes them to realise each other’s major flaws. A couple of years later, Shaggy and Scooby are invited to solve a mystery on Spooky Island and are unexpectedly reunited with the rest of the gang. Putting aside their differences, they join forces for another mystery solving project to begin.

The dialogue is often tame and the CGI effects have aged poorly, but it is still a Scooby-Doo story with a great sense of adventure, comedy and strong nostalgia. And there’s even some delightful hidden jokes which only the adult viewers will understand.
